With less than two agonizing weeks to go, I can't help reflecting on my journey since starting this business of being an author. It has been such an incredible adventure. Honestly, when I started writing, I never expected it to be more than a fun hobby to pass the time with. I didn't expect people to read my work, much less enjoy it. But they did, and they do. It continues to amaze me each time I find a new review and someone says they enjoyed my work. Why? Because I still have trouble reconciling that it's MY work, and that someone actually considers it to be good.Bizarre? Maybe, but no one ever claimed that authors were reasonable creatures ;)
So, with Knockout well on its way, I am considering what I want out of this deal. There's the obvious: I want everyone to love it. I want readers to fall in love with Jami and Ally, to fall in love with love, to experience that ache in their gut when they kiss, or they have a fight, or just when that subtle look passes between them that says without words that they can't imagine it being anyone else. You know the one. Then there is the dream. That ultimate dream I think every author fantasizes about: becoming a best seller.
Before it is all said and done, I want to be able to claim that readers loved my books enough to put them in front of the world. I dream of seeing my books on the shelf at Target (Because I love Target. They're wonderfully addictive.) I dream of one day sitting down at a table across from a smiling fan and signing a book for them and knowing that I was able to make them feel as amazing as they make me feel. It's a partnership of sorts, I think. A give and take, because as much as I'd like to say I write for me, I also write with YOU in mind. I want to give you that story that makes you FEEL something amazing, and I want to see and hear and read about it, because that is my motivation to continue creating.
So, I'll make a deal with you. When April 8th rolls around, please pick it up and tell your friends. Help me spread the word, and in return, I'll keep trying my best to put that smile on your face. Together, I think we can rock this baby out and make it something special!
